Back To You

SONG LYRICS

(Verse 1)
I’ve been trying to get my head down,
Work on something new,
But every time I get my words out,
You make me feel so blue,

I’ve been fighting for a while now,
It’s easier for you,
Not caring was a let down,
But it helped win someone new.

(Chorus)
Cause I don’t know how to feel,
When my life is being ripped right from my heels,
I don’t know what to do,
To keep my mind from chasing after thoughts of you,
Cause I’m running in circles,
Jumping through hurdles,
But they always bring me back, back to you.

(Verse 2)
I’ve been trying to make my way round,
Overthinking through,
But it’s easier to tell me,
To think of something new

I was shining on my own here,
A start that felt brand new,
But you always have to ruin,
What’s not involving you.

(Chorus)
Cause I don’t know how to feel,
When my life is being ripped right from my heels,
I don’t know what to do,
To keep my mind from chasing after thoughts of you,
Cause I’m running in circles,
Jumping through hurdles,
But they always bring me back, back to you,
Yeah they always bring me back, back to you.

(Middle 8)
My head’s been running,
From this lack of loving,
But I don’t wanna repeat history

Am I missing something?
You moved on one month in,
And now you’re here to rub it all in.

(Final Chorus)
Cause I don’t know how to feel,
When my life is being ripped right from my heels,
I don’t know what to do,
To keep my mind from chasing after thoughts of you,
Cause I’m running in circles,
Jumping through hurdles,
But they always bring me back, back to you,
Yeah they always bring me back, back to you,
They keep bringing me back, back to you,
Yeah they always bring me back, back to you.

DESCRIPTION
I wrote this song after going through a break up during lockdown and having to deal with wanting the person back but knowing that they are bad for you and trying to better yourself when you feel lost. Going through break ups are hard in normal circumstances but when you go through one where you can't see your friends and your ex moves into the same building as you with their new partner, it makes it all the more challenging. I wanted it to have a sense that even though you're fighting to get past something and you can't see your friends in person, you can do it on your own even when the pull to want them back is there and always trying to bring you back to them. Weird concept for a celebration of connections, I know, but I think it celebrates what people may have lost during the craziness of the world. Loss doesn't always have to be a bad thing and I want to highlight and celebrate that! As someone who lost their relationship and knowing a lot of other people who also lost theirs (whether it was a friendship/partner/ family member) I think it's important to keep those people in mind and help them celebrate a new chapter, together.
