SONG LYRICS

Come Back to Me

Leaves changing hue fall to the ground.
A rose in the garden? Not to be found.
Birds flying south, butterflies gone.
A nip in the air, frost on the lawn.

Come back to me, come back to me.
When life is renewed, then come back to me.

Fam’ly and loved ones, many passed on.
Their spirits are here, e’en though they’re gone.
And just like the spring, when winter has passed,
They’ll burst forth with life, be with me at last!

Come back to me, come back to me.
When life is renewed, then come back to me.

The joy I will feel, embracing you then.
I know I’ll be with you – forever again! Oh, oh, oh!

Come back to me, come back to me.
When life is renewed, then come back to me.
When life is renewed, you’ll come back to me.

DESCRIPTION
I wrote the words to the first verse of this song after learning that my brother and his wife were getting divorced. I don't know if it was the proverbial "straw," but I was really down as it felt to me that things just kept not working out how "they were supposed to." I wanted everything to be back to the way they were; back to normal. I realized that like a falling leaf things would never be the "same," but things could somehow be "renewed" - leaves coming back in the Spring, and life returning someday to loved ones who have passed to the other side. I call this my "Doctrinally Incorrect" song, because 'coming back to me" isn't how it works. But I haven't been able to bring myself to rework it as first written. My son, Sam is the vocalist, and I'm at the piano.
