SONG LYRICS

LET HIM SOAR
by Roy Schryver, Donna Johnston, and Paul Lussier
copyright 2007

Life’s a mystery, song’s a sacred gift
That can anchor us when we feel adrift
Through the music we arrived, he’s standing by our side.

This man gave us hope, against all odds stood tall
Alone he built a dream, found voice to lift us all

Like a wind blown grain of sand,
God take this gentle man

(Chorus):
Love prevails, let him soar
Fly on angel’s wings
Let him soar, lift him high
To a place where angels sing

He’ll live in our hearts strong and free from pain
A brother and a friend with a love that will not end

(Chorus):
Love prevails, let him soar
Fly on angel’s wings
Let him soar, lift him high
To a place where angels sing

May your song live on in spirit
Through the music and the voices of the children of the sun

(Chorus):
Love prevails, let him soar
Fly on angel’s wings
Let him soar, lift him high
To a place where angels sing

DESCRIPTION
This was a song written for Mr. Don Howard, the late director of my high school music program. He inspired so many of us to achieve great success in music. I followed in his footsteps to become an educator, performer and songwriter. Ironically, the week before I attempted to contact him (after 30 years) to thank him for all he had done for me, he had passed. This song, which has been performed by the Harlem Boy's and Girl's Alumni Choir of NYC, stands as my tribute to this great man who instilled in me a profound love for music. The final work on this song includes myself (Roy Schryver, music and lyrics), Donna Johnston(lyrics) and vocalist Paul Lussier.
