Multigenerational Family

SONG LYRICS

What were you like when you were my age?
What made you happy, what brought you pain?
Did you ever think about me,
and wonder what I’d be like?
Did you like math, did you like to read?
Were you quiet or funny like me?
Did you know that I was coming
To forward your footsteps?

‘Cause we’re family, family
Multigenerational Family
And I can help us stay a family by
Connecting eternal ties.

I cannot wait to see you again.
I’m very sure that we were good friends.
I’ll do the work I promised to do,
to keep our covenants true.
In our God’s house, He shows us the way,
To come back together someday.
Hand in hand, we’ll keep our links strong,
As we return to God

As a family, family
Multigenerational Family
And I can help us stay a family by
Connecting eternal ties.

DESCRIPTION
I wrote this song to encourage youth to reflect on what their previous family generations were like at their age and how family history helps keep connections strong. My brother and his wife, Jake and Melissa Garling and their six children sang an acapella version for this submission. The artwork is a photo of my grandmother in her 4-H club hat as a youth, an organization that her great-grandchildren belong to also.
