Music Is There

SONG LYRICS

Music is patient, music is kind
Music, you’re there through the toughest of times
When I’m feeling down, you make it alright

Music is honest, music is true
I know we all have our connections to you,
Some deep and endless, others brief and light

Whenever all else fails me
Music, you answer my prayer
Whenever I feel lonely
I know that music is there
I know that music is there

You teach me to listen, you teach me to hear
You teach me to open up, live without fear
You teach me it’s okay, to not be okay

You bring me to tears, bring me to my feet
A way to relate to those that I meet
When I am lost, you show me the way

Whenever all else fails me
Music, you answer my prayer
Whenever I feel lonely
I know that music is there
I know that music is there

This is an ode to the mystery of music, an ode to my love
Thank you for all that you’ve done to help us through this, because

Whenever all else fails me
Music, you answer my prayer
Whenever I feel lonely
I know that music is there
I know that music is the

ARTIST INTERVIEW
DESCRIPTION

Music Is There was written during lockdown in 2020 with Ilsa Swann, a budding young writer who I met during my live stream performances and who approached me about writing a song together. Ilsa had only written one other song with another artist which was beautiful. I hadn’t realised in our initial conversations that her cerebral palsy had prevented her from being able to take part in classes at college and to express herself fully, so she told me this songwriting experience made a huge impact on her confidence levels and her motivation to continue to pursue a career in the arts and in music therapy. The song was written about how music can connect people around the world. It’s about how music is a common language and is there for you when you’re up and when you’re down. It can enable so many new connections with people and is a vehicle through which we can express our deepest and most personal emotions. We were inspired by 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 ‘Love is Patient’ – and quote this early in the song. We’ve all found a huge hole in our lives this year without the ability to make and hear music in the way we usually do through live performances and playing with fellow musicians. I’m grateful for this realisation and for the ability to connect with people in new ways through the internet, and I am hopeful we can do live performances again in 2021.
