SONG LYRICS

Words by Allen Hunt
Music by Leonie Hunt

Sand on the Window Sill
D
Sand on the window sill
G D
And shadows in the sky
A
Water bucket empty
D
And the rafters groan and cry
D7
Trees half bare that quiver
G A
As the north wind speaks of fall
G A
Broken down old windmill
A – A7
And a vacant cattle stall
D
Was it long ago that laughter
Made the evenings seem so warm
When the fire red and cracking
Was the center of the farm
When the children ran and shouted
And the young men chopped the wood
G A
When the father taught and counseled
A D D – DF#
And the mother made it good

DESCRIPTION
Poem that I wrote on a cold fall evening about the farm on the high desert of south west Utah where my mother and father raised 13 children. My wife (Leonie Wood Hunt) composed the melody.
