Smile Into the Sky

by Steve Baugh Professional

SONG LYRICS

I was drivin’ down the highway in the autumn of my life.
The road was kind of lonely, I was longin’ for my wife.
I looked in the rearview mirror and a man looked back at me,
His face was kind of weathered, some familiarity.

Chorus:

I just smile into the sky, and I don’t stop to wonder why.
Then she smiles right back at me, so angelic and heavenly.
I know I’m not alone; she’ll be with me ’til I’m home,
If I just smile.

I met her while at college back in nineteen sixty-nine.
The cutest little coed in the school at the time.
I waited ’til the time was right, and asked her for her hand.
She didn’t even hesitate, I was sure to be her man.

Chorus:

I just smile into the sky, and I don’t stop to wonder why.
Then she smiles right back at me, so angelic and heavenly.
I know I’m not alone; she’ll be with me ’til I’m home,
If I just smile.

My mind is not as clear, as in younger days gone by,
But it’s good enough to think of all our memories and I cry.
Someday we’ll meet again, in a better place so near,
It will be a great reunion, we’ll embrace and shed a tear.

Final Chorus:

I just smile into the sky, and I don’t stop to wonder why.
Then she smiles right back at me, so angelic and heavenly.
I know I’m not alone; she’ll be with me ’til I’m home,
If I just smile.
If I just smile.
If I just smile.
