SONG LYRICS

There’s a place I’m going
I don’t know where
But I know that soon
Soon I’ll be there

I remember the beginning
When there seemed like no end
But now I can see
I’m approaching the bend

And I think of the mystery of the future and past
And like most folks, all I want is the present to last
But I’ll accept whatever the future may bring
Yes, for now, I’m content with this song that I sing

I think back on the past
And all the places I’ve been
And all the hearts that I’ve touched
Regardless of skin

Now I think of the future
And the coming unknown
Soon to be revealed
Soon to be shown

And I think of the mystery of the future and past
And like most folks, all I want is the present to last
But I’ll accept whatever the future may bring
Yes, for now, I’m content with this song that I sing

And I think of the mystery of the future and past
And like most folks, all I want is my present to last
But I’ll accept whatever the future may bring
Yes, for now, I’m content with this song that I sing

DESCRIPTION
On the drive to visit my oldest friend David Crystal & his family in Vienna Virginia I had a fantasy that we would write a song together. We'd been friends for over 50 years. We'd played music together throughout the decades. David was not a songwriting, but he was a great poet. He was suffering and dying from Alzheimer's. When I was there for a day or two the beginning of "The Mystery" came to me and I realized this was the song we could finish together. The recording is another story, but Carol Sharer joined me on violin. She had never heard the song. We had about a 2-3 minute rehearsal and were given one take only. I'm content with this version.
