The Promised Land

SONG LYRICS

The Promised Land
With 1000 miles behind us
And many more to go
We’ve crossed the burning desert
And walked through rain and snow
Everything I call my own
Is carried in my hands
You can take me down to the gates of heaven
I’m headed for the promised land.

Chorus:
Oh the promised land (Let me stay with you)
Oh the promised land (My brothers and sisters too)
Oh the promised land (Let us stay with you)
Can’t wait to be there (No pain no more)
We’ll all be free there.

Well my friends are all here with me
In generations we are four
From a babe in arms to the old and frail
We’re escaping from a war
We crossed the sea in a sinking boat
Where some of us have died
You can drop me off at the gates of heaven
I’m headed for the other side.

Chorus:
Oh the promised land (Who will help us in our time of desperate need)
Oh the promised land (Where are the promises we can finally believe)
Ooh (How many people have to hear our anguished cries)
(Together) When will the world look at us with compassion in their eyes

Now we’ve reached the final crossing
An armoured border control
With a big steel fence and a razor wire
But we can see our goal
We have our papers ready and
Together hand in hand
We’ll walk right through the gates of heaven
To get into the promised land
We’ll walk right through the gates of heaven
To get into the promised land
We’ll walk right through the gates of heaven
We’re headed oh we’re headed to the promised land
