SONG LYRICS

THEY ARE MY FAMILY

IN THE MORNING AS THE DARNESS LEAVES, AND MAKES ROOM FOR THE LIGHT
IN THE EVENING AS THE SUNLIGHT FADES AND BECKONS TO THE NIGHT
IN THE POURING RAIN OR SUNSHINE, MY THOUGHTS WILL ALWAYS BE
ABOUT MY CHILDREN, THEIR BABIES, THEY ARE MY FAMILY

IT’S THE HARDEST THING TO LIVE WITH THE MEMORIES OF MY PAST
WHEN I WASN’T QUITE THE FATHER AND I ALWAYS PUT THEM LAST
EVEN THOUGH I WASN’T THERE FOR THEM LIKE EVERY DAD SHOULD BE
THEY WERE MY CHILDREN, MY BABIES, THEY WERE MY FAMILY

CHORUS

AND NOW THAT I AM OLDER, I’M HOPING FOR THAT CHANCE
TO MAKE UP FOR MY IGNORANCE, WHILE LOOKING FOR ROMANCE
WHEN THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS IN LIFE, AREN’T ALWAYS ABOUT ME
MY CHILDREN ARE LIFE’S SPECIAL GIFTS, THEY ARE MY FAMILY

DESCRIPTION
This song was written on Thanksgiving morning 2004. I love my children but wasn't always a good father in my earlier adult life. On this morning I was thinking about my relationship with my kids and had a heavy heart. Its hard to admit not being a good Dad. Its even harder to say I loved my kids but didn't show it through my actions. This song admits those things as well as hoping to heal our relationships. I love my kids!
